Michael Jackson has been laid to rest, now what will happen to music? Most of the pop and R&B music was stemmed from either the beats or the moves of this very talented man. Michael Jackson has long been labeled the King of Pop. His music has been around for as long as I can remember. His music has crossed racial as well as age genres. For my family, his music has crossed over 4 generations. His music from 25 years ago is still played on some of the biggest radio stations. His untimely death has left an emotional void in the lives of many people. Many people did not understand his behavior or need for secrecy. He was accused of child molestation, which caused a lot of people to stop listening to his music. At his death, he was planning a comeback to show that he was still the King of Pop. Although he did not have the opportunity to perform, his movie still made millions and was the number one movie once it was released. Time Magazine reports that Michael Jackson's "This Is It", director Kenny Ortega's compilation of rehearsal footage from the London gig that was aborted by the star's death earlier this year, earned $101 million in its first days at the worldwide box office, according to initial estimates by Sony Pictures. That set a global record for a concert film. Micheal Jackson might have been controversial, but his talents and music have touched lives. "Michael Jackson will forever and always be remembered, by me, as a truly extraordinary, incredible and iconic legend" (Rochea).

I really love Michael Jacksons music. He was a very influential man and he will go on to touch music and our lives forever. I grew up listening to his music and will miss him coming out with new stuff. I love that you choose to write about him. Blogs like this show that he will go on forever.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean at the very end of the post when you put (Rochea) in the sentence? Is this a citation for a reference? I'm still wondering about that last sentence--why the repetition in "forever be remembered"--is this intentional?
ReplyDeleteI think you're right that his work does stand apart and it certainly influenced others. Which artists do you think were affected by MJ's music?
I will agree with you that Michael Jackson was, and continues to be, a great inspiration for countless amounts of artists. His music is so universal that even rock bands, who obviously have very different styles of music, are able to come out with covers of Michael Jackson's songs. The number you provided of amounts of money earned from the film goes to show just how many people are willing to pay the outrageous amounts of money a movie ticket costs now a days to see him at one of his most natural moments. I personally saw the movie myself and I am so glad that Kenny Ortega was able to capture all those moments and put them out there for the world to see.
